The Awkward Questions Answered
We like elephants... they're cute! ...
... in the wild... not in our space...
-
Is it typical practice to tip a therapist?
*** Short answer:: BodyWork Warriors service fees were calculated including an average tip. Additional gratuities are not necessary, but won't be turned away ;)
--> Long answer:: Yes ... and no::
--> If the therapist providing service solely owns the business and does not share any commissions::
Gratuities NOT typical
--> If the therapist providing service is an employee or independent contractor who shares commissions, gets paid hourly, and/or is paid through the entity they're representing::
Gratuities ARE typical
--> How much is a proper tip?
--> The general consensus among highly experienced therapists is that gratuities paid for massage services should not be based upon a percentage of the service fee, but upon the time and quality of the service.
--> Rule of thumb:: $10 per 30 min for a satisfactory service; twice that for an exemplary service; ZERO for anything else.
-
Is it okay if I have alcohol before/after a session?
--> Massage therapy encourages the rate of systemic and metabolic flow. This means that any toxins currently in your body will be processed faster through your vital organs, which in turn increases the stress placed upon them. ONE BEER before a one-hour massage may completely intoxicate you and may make the service an unpleasant experience... and at worst damage your liver due to the speed at which it is forced to metabolize the alcohol. Many therapists will NOT knowingly work on a client under the influence of any amount of alcohol or drugs due to the risk to a client's health and that of our liability insurance.
-
How far undressed do I need to be for therapy?
--> You may choose to be either completely/partially undressed or remain in your clothes. It depends on how comfortable you are in your environment. For instance, one may remain fully clothed and still receive highly skilled Sports, Medical, and Injury Rehab services. A relaxing Swedish massage may also be performed over a fully-clothed individual with the use of towels, linens, or other mediums that can slide easily across clothes.
--> Keep in mind:: There are many modalities requiring tools that need to be in direct contact with your skin. For instance, neither cupping nor hot stones can be performed over cloths.
--> Modesty Assurances:: Errogenous zone exposure should NEVER occur in a draped massage service! Professional therapists are experts at easily "draping" the massage table linens and blankets around a client's limbs with minimal interruption to their service in order to preserve their modesty.

How soon after an injury may I receive therapy?
--> How fast can you get to our booking page and schedule your appointment? There are a rare few injuries and/or conditions that will be a complete contraindication to a service. We provide all types of pressure and touch, including "no-touch" services such as Reiki, aromatherapy, sound and/or visual relaxation/stimulation, bioenergetic wellness services, etc.
--> ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN FIRST
